What are balance disorders?

Balance issues can be both physical and mental in nature. This is due to the fact that your brain may believe you are moving when you are not. When walking, for example, you may feel as if you are falling or stumbling. Furthermore, you may experience dizziness and blurred vision.

Changes in joint strength, mobility, and proprioception (your body’s ability to sense movement, action, and location) all affect your balance.

What causes balance disorders?

Your vestibular system controls your sense of position, also known as “proprioception,” and vestibular system dysfunction is at the root of many balance issues.

A few balance disorders are Meniere’s disease, Vestibular Neuronitis, Perilymph Fistula, and Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).

How are balance disorders treated at MedRehab Group Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the most effective treatment for balance disorders. An assessment will be performed when you arrive for your first appointment at MedRehab Group Physiotherapy.

Our physiotherapist will thoroughly examine your balance, stance, medical history, and symptoms.

The results of your evaluation will inform your personalized treatment plan. The strategy will be tailored to your specific requirements.

Our physiotherapists frequently use the following exercises and modalities:

Rehabilitating the vestibular system

If you have a balance or gait problem, our southern Ontario physiotherapist will teach you specific exercises to help move the calcium debris to the proper parts of your ear. Vestibular therapy helps you maintain a steady balance by improving your vision, nerves, muscles, and the vestibular system as a whole.

Exercising for strength

During your assessment, you will also learn about the areas of your body that need to be strengthened. You will learn muscle-building exercises that will make it much easier to move around and reduce your risk of injury.
