Physiotherapy at Green Lane
Physiotherapy treatment and assessments are two thirds of visits here. Avishan Rafati and Jacquelin Rotella treat back and neck pain, shoulder and knee injuries, arthritis, recovery after surgery, sports injuries, and pain after car accidents and work injuries. Every course of care begins with a one-to-one assessment and a plan you agree together. Treatment combines manual therapy, a progressive home exercise programme, education on managing the problem, and electrotherapy or ultrasound where they help. How treatment works
Diagnosis first, then hands-on treatment for restricted joints and tissue, a home exercise programme progressed at each visit, and specific advice on work tasks, lifting and pacing. Ultrasound, electrotherapy and heat are used where they help. In a study of 122,723 people with new low back pain, those who started guideline-based physiotherapy within 14 days used less imaging, fewer injections, less surgery and fewer opioids over the following two years (Childs et al., 2015). The plan here is built to start early and finish with you managing on your own.
Your first visit
No referral is needed. Wear something you can move in and bring any imaging reports or insurer paperwork. The assessment is one-to-one with a registered physiotherapist: history, movement testing, a working diagnosis and a plan you agree together. Treatment usually starts in the same appointment. You leave with a first exercise and an honest estimate of how many visits it should take.

Open Monday and Tuesday 10am to 6pm, Wednesday 9am to 7pm, Thursday 11am to 7pm and Friday 9am to 5pm. The clinic is closed on weekends; our Richmond Hill clinic is the nearest with Saturday appointments. Free parking at the plaza. York Region Transit's Yonge Street routes and Viva Blue stop at Green Lane, and East Gwillimbury GO is a short drive east.
Paying for physiotherapy
Close to four in five visits are billed to an insurer. The clinic bills most extended health plans directly and handles WSIB claims and works with your auto insurer for physiotherapy after a car accident. Private-pay fees are available from reception.

Do I need a referral?

What should I bring to my first physiotherapy appointment?

Do I need a scan before I start?
No. Most low back, neck and joint pain is assessed and treated without imaging, and guidelines advise against routine scans for uncomplicated back pain. If the assessment finds something that warrants imaging, the physiotherapist will say so and write to your doctor.
Is the clinic open on weekends?
No. The clinic is closed on Saturdays and Sundays; our Richmond Hill clinic is open Saturdays. Weekday hours are Monday and Tuesday 10am to 6pm, Wednesday 9am to 7pm, Thursday 11am to 7pm and Friday 9am to 5pm.
